One of the strongest ministries at PUMC is the Painesville United Methodist Stitchers. Organized in 1997 as an offshoot of numerous craft shows held at the church, this group of talented individuals meets weekly from September through May to create items such as: baby hats, bibs, and blankets; scarves, hats and pillows for chemo patients; lap quilts for nursing home residents; and Huggy Bears for rescue personnel to give to children in emergency situations.
Over the past 12 years the group has donated items to Birthright, Hope Chest, Lake Health (formerly Lake Hospital Systems), Hospice, Salvation Army, and many area nursing homes.
The Stitchers meet Thursdays in Parsons Hall at the church from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and share bagged lunches together. Anyone, male or female, young or elderly, is welcome to help with projects at the church or at home. While the ability to knit, sew, or crochet is helpful, there are many other tasks that anyone can help with. Those desiring additional information may contact the church office at 440-354-3642.
