Men: Let the
Spirit Move You
The PUMC men who
attended the UMMen meetings at Purdue University last summer had a wonderful
experience. God’s Spirit was indeed present. Men from all over the world
shared in this Spirit, including the men from PUMC. In an effort to share this
wonderful feeling with others, some of the men who attended the Purdue gathering
have met several times to lay the groundwork for creating an active men’s
group at PUMC. They are now ready to welcome other men into the group.
The Mission Statement
of the group is:
Men
sharing God’s love and Christian teachings
to strengthen their relationship with God.
The group has been
meeting for breakfast at 8 a.m. the first Saturday of each month at
"Flavors on the Square," next to the church. Typically, after ordering
breakfast, one of the men will lead a discussion of a particular passage from
the Bible or a chosen Christian topic. Discussions focus on what it means to be
a Christian Man in today’s world as it relates to the passage or topic, and
all men are encouraged to share their experiences. The meeting always begins and
ends with a prayer.
Jesus said, "Where
two or more are gathered in my name, there will I be also." Bob Stewart,
one of the organizers, notes that as the men gather each month to share God’s
love, Jesus will join them in the form of the Holy Spirit. As they become more
comfortable sharing Christian experiences, they will strengthen their personal
relationship with God.
Bob Stewart and Ron Mraz encourage all men of the church
to join them. Although the group is not meant to be a service club, they are
encouraging men to help with the needs of the church, so a service project will
often follow the regular meeting. Anyone desiring further details may call Bob at 440/953-2928 or Ron
at 440/357-8021.
