Purpose:
The organized unit of the United Methodist Women shall be community of
women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole
persons through Jesus Christ: to develop a creative, supportive
fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in
global ministries of the church.
Membership:
Regardless of all designations of age, race, or financial, marital or
employment status; each member is regarded as a person of unique
value. All women are welcome. Membership is expressed by
prayer, attendance at meetings, service, and financial support through
gifts, offerings, and pledges.
Emblem:
The picture at the top of this page represents the official emblem of
the United Methodist Women's organization. Combining cross and
flame, ancient symbols of Christ, the shape of the emblem is fluid and
free-flowing suggesting change and mobility.
The United Methodist Women’s
Group of the Painesville United Methodist church is open to all women of
the church. Three different circles provide a variety of fellowship
opportunities and times.
General meetings, where all circles
attend, are held three times a year. In
April we celebrate UMW Sunday during all three services to honor our
rich heritage and share with the congregation the meaningful work that
is accomplished through UMW. In May,
the UMW sponsors a Celebration of the Family Woman dinner and in June,
the UMW sponsors a Celebration of the Family Man dinner.
June is also the picnic month for each of the circles. In
October a Harvest Dinner is presented and December brings an
always well-attended Christmas celebration.
Our church relies on the kindness of the United
Methodist Women in a variety of ways. Whether it is providing their
baking skills to supply reception needs, or to host a family meal after
a funeral, or all of the wonderful work they do in mission to the
community and world – our church is fortunate to have such a wonderful
group of ladies willing to give their times and talents to help others.
Being a part of the United Methodist Women’s Group
is a great way to meet other women of the church and learn about
different areas to become involved in. This year’s UMW President is
Alyssa Conklin-Moore. Please contact her through the church office if you should
have any questions.

This year’s UMW theme is “Rise,
Shine and Glorify God.” We began in January by installing officers at
our General Meeting. All three of our Circles participate in this event
and look forward to kicking off an inspiring year of programming,
prayer, fellowship and mission. We respond locally and globally to the
ministries of the Church.
Later this month, we look forward to
hosting the Western Reserve UMW Spring District Meeting here at the
Church on Saturday, April 28th. In July, we will be sending
representatives to the UMW School of Christian Mission, supporting the
Soup Kitchen at St. James Church, and enjoying summer potlucks within
our Circle groups. September will feature a bake sale, another general
meeting, and an all-day retreat from 9-3 on September 22nd.
Mark your calendars now and plan to attend!
October will be a time to gather
with other ladies at the East Ohio Conference Annual UMW Meeting, as
well as the UMW Fall District Meeting for the Western Reserve District.
But don’t forget about our wonderful Harvest Dinner that will be held on
October 27th! This is an event that our congregation and the
community at large has enjoyed year after year. Then we’ll round out the
year with festive Christmas gatherings, a December Bake Sale and our
third general meeting. We look forward to seeing you at these upcoming
events!
