This is the official emblem of the United Methodist Women. Combining a cross and flame, ancient symbols of Jesus Christ, the shape of this emblem is fluid and free-flowing, suggesting change and mobility. With this challenge, our local three circles of United Methodist Women, are open and welcoming to all women of the church, offering a special way to meet and know each other while working on mission projects for our local community and the wider world at large.
What began years ago in the formation of as many as ten separate circles, Painesville United Methodist Women have changed and evolved over the years and now feature three circles named for women in the Bible -- Mary/Martha, Rebekah, and Ruth. These circles join together in general meetings in January, September, and December; in projects such as bake sales, special occasion dinners, and providing receptions as needed; and for UMW Sunday in the spring when the women share their unique talents for the Church’s three worship services.
Individually, each circle also meets monthly from September through June, with the members rotating responsibilities for providing devotions, mission moments, business matters, some type of special program, and refreshments.
Mary/Martha Circle meets on the third Tuesday of these months beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Church, and conclude each meeting by sharing lunch, whether potluck, prepared, or out at a favorite establishment.
Rebekah Circle meets also on the second Wednesday of the month from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. in the Church Parlor.
Ruth Circle meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in Parsons Hall.
Currently our leadership includes UMW President Jill Stadel, UMW Vice-President Sharon Miller, Honorary Vice-President Roberta Kalb, Secretary Carol Powers, Treasurer Gerri Woodruff, plus many other committee and special area coordinators. Mary/Martha Circle Chairperson is Joyce Flood, Rebekah Circle President Judy Riczinger, and Ruth Circle is run by a rotating schedule of circle members.
